Some JPG files cannot be open after Security Update for Outlook.

Ian,

Thank you for the information, any chance you can elaborate on a few things?
You stated "this should allow some..." - this implies not all images will
work again - is this correct, and if so, will another fix be coming down the
pipe that will correct all? Do you know if this will be pushed in the
upcoming Windows Update releases? Lastly, on the links provided, there are
no download options, nor on any of the associated pages for this issue.

Thanks again,

Dave

I can't answer the questions posted to Ian, but take the "go" (below) link
the KB article. This will take you to a web request form. Fill it out and
it should take about 8 hours to get. (I requested this morning at 3AM and
had the download link & password by 10AM.)

Please see the following fixes which are available via Microsoft for
Outlook
2003 and Outlook 2007.

Oulook 2007

952001 In Office Outlook 2007, you cannot open Macintosh binary
attachments
after you install security update MS08-015

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;952001

Outlook 2003.

951678 Description of the Outlook 2003 hotfix package: April 15, 2008

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;951678

This should allow some of the jpg pictures to be open but if there is
additional metadata in the header of the file, it may not be recognised
by
windows picture and fax viewer i.e GDIplus doesn't recognise it.

Hope this helps people out there.

Cheers,
Ian

I have installed this patch on about 10 computers so far, all of them are
working like a charm after.

Thanks to everyone, especially Neo and Ian, for pushing this problem through
to resolution.

Thank you Neo, I appreciate it.

Agreed, I've been working on this for a few days, and this is the first time a result has appeared for it.

Major thanks to all those who got results!

Has there been any updates?

I tried sending an email using the link to test the patch but never recieved any reply.

Very strange, just to verify you used
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=6294451 that took you to the Microsoft
hotfix web request submission form. You filled it out and selected submit.
Then you received no response...

I would try it one more time, but make sure any spam filters you might have
aren't deleting the message that comes from them. If you don't see anything
by Monday, I would just call Microsoft Product Support direct and give them
the KB article of the patch.

My reply arrived.
I've downloaded and expanded the hotfix.

Today I plan to test.
I'll post my results.

Thank you for the help.

Does anyone know if there has there been a permanent/superceding fix issued
for this yet? I'd rather not have to un-install this 'hotfix' from all our
Company computers!

Thank you for your post.
I am surprise not alot has been written or posted about this problem.
I search for many key words and eventually found your post. I uninstalled
the security update KB94532 and it fixed the problem.
MInd you when i saved the JPG file into a temp directory and analyse the
security permissions etc, nothing looks peculiar about it... and tried to
view as a file, it wouldn't even do it, Weird!!!

Some thing Here:
Windows XP SP2 PRO ENG
Microsoft Office 2003 SP3

JPG Files Saved from Photoshop CS3 - OSX Tiger 10.4
Removed KB945432 and files are viewable again
Didn't try to reapply the patch

The files was saved as JPEG from photoshop, if i save the files as "Save for
WEB" with JPEG and High the problem doesn't occur
