Socket()Failed:10091 Winsock problem???

When I log on I receive ERROR:Socket()failed:10091. I've been doing a lot of
research and I think it may be a winsock.dll problem but I'm not sure.

One tech said, "this error is returned by WSAStartup and that I should check
that winsock.dll is in the current path" although I have no idea what the
current path is or where it should be. Another tech suggested I do a Browser
Fix. Another tech suggested I use netdiag\test:winsock. Another tech
suggested using WinsockFix.zip. All techs suggest checking with my
computer's manufacturer.

I am using a Sony Vaio and I'm running Windows XP.

I checked my computer and found winsock twice in the following paths:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winsock.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\winsock.dll
Both files are identical: same version, creation date and size.

Is socket()failed:10091 a winsock problem???? If so, how do I fix it??? I
don't know who's suggestions to follow because I don't know what the exact
problem is.

Can anyone help me???

Note: I tried a system restore but it didn't work.

Thank you. I will save this note and apply it if I have to. This error no
longer appears after I restored my isp (aol) but I have no idea why. I can't
see what a socket error has to do with AOL but, as for now, I will just be
thankful that it doesn't appear any longer.
