Windows XP Pro
Have run current Norton AV, AdAware, Spybot and several other scans
None have found virus/malware
Have also ran Winsockxp fix from snap which made changes but the error is
still there.
The Problem:
When I log on dialup, the connection completes, and whether I am in IE,
Foxfire, or just getting messages in Outlook - I get an error message window
WINSOCK
Memory Read in Socket DLL (0x00000F2E) failed
Restart your computer to fix this problem
At which time the connection is terminated.
Oddly, If, while leaving the error message on screen, I restart the
connection, it appears to work normally and I do not get another error
message or shutdown.
My searches Google/Microsoft, etc for
Winsock: Memory Read in Socket DLL (0x00000F2E) failed
in multiple wordings finds no pertinent links.
The only other possibley related issue: Zone Alarm warned of a program
seeking access but the info items were all blank. I denied access and after
the next reboot, another warning, this time with the progam identifier as :
"n^A^H" and again without any other information - denied this access as well.
Almost seems like some virus/malware/etc is trying to access the net - don't
know if they are related, but they both happened together.
Anybody know where to go next?
