so much for linux

Lordy

I don't want 'windows'. I want Linux to work as advertised.

Same useless non point.

The hell is isn't.

Go read the link. Microsoft want lock in so they dont make interoperability
easy.

You're a fool if you think being non interoperable with > 90% of the
market is a Linux 'feature'.

<rolls eyes>Whatever...

Maybe you don't want to count the tens or hundreds of thousands of PCs
that IBM uses internally. IBM has committed to using Linux internally.

If you were familiar with what IBM was using prior to Linux, anything
would be an upgrade. As of a couple of years ago, IBM's internal PC
situation was a disaster... lots of versions of operating systems from
os/2 to 95/98/98se/2k/xp; running a huge variety of software, some
absolutely ancient. Updating and modernizing that mess would be a gigantic
expenditure even for IBM, I can understand why they would choose Linux.

I read 'the link' but a couple of yahoos in an online newsgroup isn't
'linux gospel'.

And if it were then all the Linux distributions and 'howtos' should remove
their various 'windows domain' information pages right now, not to mention
removing it from the Samba config file.

We'll also have to go in and rework Mandrake 10.1, which has a simple 'do
this' instruction for activating domain logon, and tell everyone to stop
using it.

<rolls eyes>Whatever...

It's precisely that kind of attitude that would relegate Linux to nothing
more than a foot note in history if the Linux community adopted it.

Mr Jessop

We were talking about Mr. Jessop's problem installing SuSE.

Which has been semi successful. The difficulty in which i find in ironing
out the bugs will be very telling given my totally windows background.

I would love to start building boxes again. Installing suse for free. just
think, word processor, spreadsheet, and a photoshop equivalent all for free.
With complete newbies it may be easier to teach than the simpleton users of
windows. They would have to unlearn windows first.
