snap server and crossover cable - possible?

M

My desktop is attached to the network via a wireless card. The regular
network port is not used.

I have given the regular network port a static ip address and I gave
the snap server 2200 a static address.

I then attached a crossover cable.

The result is flashing lights on both devices that would indicate
network activity, but alas I cannot see the Snap server.

I have tried with and without a default gateway. I am at a loss!

I am not opposed to any solution to get the snap server hooked into the
desktop - the file transfer times for large video files over the
wireless (high speed!) network are unacceptable...I really need to have
100 mbps for the Snap server!

Thanks to anyone who can help! :)

Also, if there is a better group to post this in, let me know...I have
not cross posted this.

What happens when you Start - Run and type in \\192.168.0.2 ? Note you
should use the real IP address of the snap server?

Whoops! It took 5 minutes but I got an error box - " The network path
was not found."

Thanks ,

The usual starting point for diagnosing such issues is to
do this on each PC:
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type these commands:
echo %ComputerName% > c:\test.txt
ipconfig /all >> c:\test.txt
notepad c:\test.txt
- Post the contents of each file.

It sounds like they are not talking. Try pinging the snap server by name and
address but it sounds like it will fail. What IP and subnet mask did you
give each device? Is this the same subnet as your wireless connection? It
should be on a different subnet.

Problem solved - I feel like a dummy once again...must be the head
cold.

I was not using a subnet!

Thanks to everyone who responded. I am glad to see that usenet is still
alive! I haven't posted to a newsgroup in years...I think I'll be back!
:)

Best regards,
