Sluggish Responding on Windows Functions

I am having a frequent problem where Vista is sluggish in responding to the
opening on some native Windows features. Some places were I have experienced
it are:

* Opening Windows Explorer
* Opening the Network Connections windows
* Opening the Personalize window

There are a lot of other instances, but these are the highlights.
Basiscally, I can click to go to one of these areas and the system will think
for quite sometime b/f they actually open. Many times I will go do something
else like surf the web while I wait for the window to open. It can at times
take up to 2 minutes for the window to open. This does not happen every
time, but happens many times.

I am not pegging out on my RAM or my CPU capabilities.

Please note that I have indexing turned off, I am running a duo core
processor and have 1GB of RAM. I also have all of the frills turned off
regarding the visual effects in Vista.

1GB of RAM is not enough for Vista. Increase it to 2GB. Also decrease
the number of programs that are running in the background. Do clean-boot
troubleshooting to determine what is causing the slowdown.

I had very similar problems with a new Dell laptop until I recently had it
'upgraded' to Windows XP Home Edition. After trying to understand Dell's support
people for weeks, with no solutions to any of the problems, I installed an
additional 2GB of RAM at great expense, to compensate for Vista's shortcomings.
Needless to say, that did not help one iota - and Dell would not take back the RAM
without me paying an outrageous restocking fee, in addition to losing the shipping
costs both ways.

Even after doing everything Dell said, and reluctantly adding RAM to my new $2200
laptop, the thing never worked well until XP was loaded (only an additional $235
from my local computer shop). Dell's support people had only a few basic suggestions
when it came to solving any of my problems - the main ones being to simply turn off
all of Vista's bells and whistles, and to spend more money on un-needed hardware, of
course.

If Microsoft is listening, please dump Vista and bring back XP!
