Slow running computer

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can provide me a little guidance or help. I have a
lap top (Dell Inspiron 1550) that has been operating perfectly. I had to go
out of town last week and the hotels that I stayed in had wireless
connections and I was on line frequently. Now that I am back home and
running my computer through my wireless network the computer runs really
slow. I have defragmented both C and E drives and I have ran my adware and
anti-virus scans and have cleaned my temporarily internet files and cookies.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

I am running Windows XP Home.

Slow ? as in network performance or the computer in general. One
thing that can impact performance is if the drive has become "Dirty".
Some inconsistencies on the drive can result in slow/sluggish operation.
Open a command prompt wind ( Start, Run (Type) Cmd [Enter] )
From the Command prompt > Chkdsk C: [Enter]
This performs a Read-Only mode Chkdsk. If any issues are found
the results will suggest a Chkdsk C: with a /F or R qualifier to repair
the errors.
NOTE: Chkdsk can and does remove content from the drive in the
repair mode. NEVER run Chkdsk C: /F or /R unless your
data is properly backed up and verified.

Thanks for te information. I guess I wasn't really clear about what is
running slow. The slowness is accessing the internet and my email. I use
Microsoft Outlook for my email. I take about 3 - 4 minutes to get mail.
