slow at saving movies

I'm at a loss. I edit videos in MM2 Most of these videos are high school
sporting events that are as large as 1 to 1 and a half hours long. I have two
250 gb drives in raid striped for 500 gb. the problem i am having now is it
is taking nearly 2 hours to save a 40 minute clip in dv-avi. normally it
might take a little over an hour for a clip that size depending any effects
or extensive editing i might do. the raid drives are 80 % empty and defraged.
I can't think of any changes to the system

my pc is pretty slow at saving movies as wmv's, but i do know a few other
people who have quite fast computers who say it takes a while to save, but
only 10-15 minutes. I think because you''re trying to save a movie that is 40
minutes long is because it's so slow

It is your system resources that determine how long it will take to render a
movie not your harddrive space (unless it is low of course) 2 hours for a 40
minute video even as DV-AVI is a bit of a long time but not really all that
realistic if the piece is complex and you don't have a lot of free resources
for Movie Maker to use.
