Slide sorter export

An apparent feature of PowerPoint 2004 allows you to drag thumbnail views
from the Slide Sorter view in one presentation to a new slide (in normal
view) in another presentation. The result is a picture of the original slide
as a thumbnail in the new presentation. Ideal for recapping older
presentations when giving newer ones.

I would like to be able to do the folllowing:

1) be able to open a 2004 presentation with these 'thumbnail' slides in
PowerPoint 2008
2) use the same functionality in PowerPoint 2008

Neither of which seems to work.

There is partial success opening an old presentation in 2008 but the
thumbnail images are normally either not complete (only some elements of the
original slide showing) or not visible at all.

In the second option I am unable to find the same functionality in 2008.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

It is likely that the functionality we have used in 2004 is not either
documented or supported by MS. Was wondering if any others had found this
funtionality useful and whether any similar things can be done in 2008.

Hoping someone might know what I am talking about...

Thanks
