sinister: Wireless data exchange help

hi all

im just on on my wirless network
it has both of my pcs connected

im just on one of the pcs and if i double click on wirless netowkr on bottom left hand corner it tell me im connected and the speed etc, that all makes sense

############BUT

under activity ive got the follwiing:

bytes sent : 10,413,568 (10 gb) noo wayyy
Bytes recieved: get ready for it : 362,322,737 (is this the same as 362GB)!!!!! WTF???? no way.........

sorry but WHA THE HELL!! i dont get this?

all ive done on this pc is browse and not even a lot ive not transffered any files
something sinister going on

surley i cant hae recieved that much rite in under 3 hours thats not mathemattically possible?

do i need to change a setting or something?

im worried please help

the first one is 10MB!

10(MB),413(KB), 568(B)
326(MB), 322(KB), 737 (B)

Dont worry, you thought it was being measured in KB, it is actually measured in bytes.

but why is it measured in bytes on that pc?

can i change it so it measures in kb?

im sure my other pc measures in kb!

MAKES SENSE!!!!!!


and thats all in 10 hours of connection MAKES SENSE

but the other figure from last nite WOW! im still confused as to how that figure be4 is that high!

could i have a hacker in my network?
ive got both wep key and mac filtering but that high number alarms me

456,887 recieved = 456 MB
234,564 sent = 235MB

that makes sense!

but what about my figures last nite?

i dont use that pc much i just trying to connect it wirelessly!

my figures last nite are mesmerising me big time!

im sure they must be BYTES but it still dont make sense!

Is the machine measuring in packets or bytes?

i have 2 on my desk (lappy and pc) one has SP2, one dosent, one is measuring in packets, one in bytes

PSD, ignore it, it makes no differance what so ever.

It is windows, do you have a limit to how much you can download from the net?

if not, why does it even matter?

could the pc last night have been downloading updates from MS?

but im just confused at the figure mate

updates of that size? lol i dont think so

it could have been measuring on packets im not 100% sure on what it was measuring but if its bytes im 1000000% sure that that figure i posted is not physically or mathematically possible!

well ur rite shoulndt let it worry me
ill try play around with the setting and monitor traffic using a programe next time on on the machine!

nah no dl limit thats fine on that front

im just worried if nething sinister is going on ie some dude taking my shared files
i know he cant delete them or edit them but u never know! thats why im not very happy and sure with wireless, its prob easy to crack!


its just a worry!
