use a News reader. You already have one on your machine - outlook Express.
How to set up OE as a News reader:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/setup.asp
http://www.gmayor.com/MSNews.htm
thanks for response, but please be informed that the link to expertzone did not work, I was directed to a site for vista which for all accounts is a pain

| Hello, I assume Microsoft is changing this program.
| I did the following; clicked on "profile icon" when profile page
| appeared I did not change anything and clicked on "close profile",
| this returned me to the news group with my sign in name.
| Hope it works for you.
| take care.
| beamish.
Where/What is the "Profile Icon" or does it apply only if you are not
using or have OE set up as a news reader? TIA
