shut down problem

When I try to turn off the PC i get the following message
End Program - Explorer.exe
Ending program... Please wait If you choose to end the
program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data. To
end the program now click End Now.

if i click on "end now" button it does not do any thing,
i have to turn it off by the power switch.
HOw can I solve this problem?

Go to the Help and Support Center and search for the Startup and Shutdown
Troubleshooter.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

set AutoEndTasks to 1.

also, check the event log to see if anything is wrong when you shut down.
