Shortcut arrows on icons

Can someone please tell me how to eliminate the arrows that are on shortcut
icons on the desktop? I used to know how to do it, but cannot remember.

Hello Roger,

You can replace or remove the overlay icon on shortcuts. This can be done by TweakUI. Under TweakUI,
navigate to explorer>shortcut and select 'None' to completely remove the overlay icon, or 'Custom'
to choose your custom icon.

You may either do it through the registry or by TweakUI.
Download and install TweakUI.Open TweakUI>Explorer>click Shortcut>
Select 'None'.

place the actual file on desktop ie save location "desktop". then won't need

First of all, the little arrows serve a very useful purpose. The
differentiate shortcuts from actual files so that you don't accidentally
delete a file thinking it is a shortcut. Note the suggestion you got to get
rid of shortcuts and put your program and data files on your desktop is a
really STUPID idea. IMHO, you should never place critical files on the
desktop. Always use shortcuts.

If you must, the advice about TWEAKUI for XP will do the trick, just don't
come complaining if someday you delete something critical off your desktop
and get screwed.

Shouldn't be over using shortcuts anyway. They just clutter up desktop.

Sort of makes it annoying if you have to fix somebodies pc that is all
cluttered. Sort of like trying to fish in your buddies boat that's all
filled up with old beer cans, bait tins, loose tackle nad line, and
trash.
