shdocvw.dll

DebraDelMar

I downloaded and installed a Windows (XP) update,
restarted the computer, then started having problems when
I tried to log onto my user account (or any account). Only
the screen saver showed up, no icons, no nada, other than
a message that said "shdocvw.dll could not be found."
Finally (no thanks to the Dell tech) I got the accounts to
open up by using a disk and opening up Windows at the last
date it started correctly (a system restore, I guess).
Now, however, I cannot view certain web pages. I did a
search for shdocvw.dll and it turned up 4 locations (4
different folders). Everything was working well before the
update, and I've never had any problems after
updating...till now. Any suggestions?
