Sharing Folders in a workgroup

V

Vince

We are using a peer to peer network and just converted
our file "server" from 98 to XP. We used to have shared
directories password protected in 98, but I cannot see
where you can set the same thing up in XP. I know this is
probably a stupid question. But how can I accomplish this?

Thank you ahead of time.

Hi Vince,

There is no way to password protect individual folders. What you can do is
setup ACL's (Access Control Lists) so that each student is only allowed to
access their folder. The drive that has the folders would need to have
NTFS.

Here are instructions for setting up NTFS.

To set ACL's:

Right click their folder, select Properties. Click on the Security Tab.
Add the User that you want to have access to the list. By default the
Administrators group will have access to the folder. You can change that if
you want.
Click Ok.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
