Protecting folders with a password on the network?

Microsoft News

Hello:
I am using Windows XP Professional and have a small peer to peer network
with 4 computers. 3 of the machines are using windows 98. If I share a
resource from one of the 98 machines I am asked if I want to add a password
to the share so only people who know the password can work with it.

On this XP program that does not seem possible. How can I share a resource
from the XP Machine and keep it protected so only certain people can access
it?

One last thing I have a book on XP and it list in the pages a feature like
Windows 2000 that you should beable to right click a share or other file and
choose properties such as who has read or write access to the item. I can
not find that either. Was my book written while XP was in Beta?

Thanks for any help. I looked through the news group but either did not see
the question before of over looked it.
