sharing cable internet using the motorola surfboard cable modem and ICS

I am trying to share my cable internet connection with another computer. the
modem is connected to my pc via the USB port. the two computers have a
network operating and I can share files and play lan games on the network.

The internet Connection sharing does not work though. I read in the xp
support that this may have something to do with the Motorola Surfboard
modem. anyone heard of this?

has anyone here successfully shared there cable connection without a router
or hub or switch, and if
so, how did you go about it??

Look into bridging the connection in XP (if your usb device is
supported). As it is, I doubt the WAN/USB connection is on the same
network with the two wired PC's. Post your network config/topology.

If the above doesn't work, look into a cheap router (ebay's a good
start), or another NIC for the XP box if your cable modem as an RJ45
interface.
