servicespacks and the internet

Bill

I have Sprint DSL. Once I install a service pack other
than 1, came on install disk, I can no longer connect to
the internt. This is the same for 2, 3, and 4. Once I
delete these service pack everything is fine, but I can't
run some of my software that must have 2 or higher to
run. Sprint says it is Microsoft's fault or the
manufacturer of my computer, since that's me I dont think
so. I can't even go in and manually select the ip's,
subsets and gateways. I am even tryin to run it through a
router and that does nothing, works for no packs doesn't
for the packs. someone please help!

Hi Bill

There are to things you can do which may fix your Modem Problems.

The first thing is to uninstall and then re-install the TCP/IP-Protocol:

- Goto START-> SETTINGS -> NETWORK AND DIALUP-CONNECTIONS and there open
your Cable Modem Connection (Usually LAN Connection).

- In the new Window, choose 'Properties'

- In the 'Properties' Windows hightlight the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
and then press the Uninstall Button below. Click OK to uninstall the
Protocol.

- Reboot your PC.

- After the Reboot, access the 'Properties Window again using the same steps
as described above.

- This time, click on the "Install..." Button.

- In "Select Network Component Type" choose "Protocol" and press "Add..."

- There choose "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click OK.

- Reboot your PC.

If that has not worked out, then please try the following:

Change the value from 1 to 0 (zero) in this registry item:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\
Parameters\Tcpip1323Oopts

Right-click on the value and change the number from 1 to
zero. Reboot and surf away!

** ALL warnigs regarding changing registry values apply **
ALWAYS backup your registry before applying any changes.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

I'm having the same problem myself, Bill, even with SP1. All antivirus was
disabled during download and install for packs one and then two, changed
browsers also, but to no avail. I'm currently running w/o and service packs
and feeling just a bit uneasy about picking up and having to remove
"lovsan". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

There is no Tcpip1323Oopts in the registery. I checked
under all the different folders and it's not there. The
tcpip protocall reinstall didn't work either.
