I've just noticced there is a difference in the layout of the Hardware tab
in System Properties between service pack 2 (SP2) and the original version.
the original has 3 rows: Add Hardware, Device Manager and Hardware profile.
And the SP2 has Device Manager, Drivers and Hardware profile.
My laptop has the SP2 and desktop has the original, is this might be due to
laptop and desktop, or they are new/modified features in SP2?
Another difference is the Generic Volume (GV) in Device Manager (DM). To see
this, you have to go to View -> Show hidden devices, and expand the Storage
Volumes entry.
In SP 2 (laptop), when I view the properties of these GVs, there is always
three tabs in the properties window, ie, General, Driver and Details.
Whereas, the original version has only General and Driver.
Are the above observations normal? Can anyone help? I'm trying to install an
external HD. It works ok on my PC (original XP), but doesn;t shows up the
drive in my laptop (SP2). The disk drive is visible in Disk drives entry in
DM. but not in My Computer.
TIA
