Service Pack 1

I just receive the CD and installed Service Pack 1. I have a comment
and a question.

My comment is that it sure would be useful if Microsoft were to warn
that you need to have Internet Explorer as your default browser! I use
Netscape and the autorun feature did not, of course, work. So I started
by opening the CD and clicking on the executable program. This seemed
to work until the entire enterprise went into a loop and for 45 minutes
I waited and waited while the Install Wizard said 'running processes
after intallation.! I aborted, switched the default browser to IE and
everything appears to be installed.

My question is that even though I declined the option to make backups of
the old files in case I wanted to uninstall the Service Pace (the
warning that it takes gobs of disk space was ominous - it would be nice
to be told the exact amount of space or an estimate thereof rather than
simply saying "lots" of space), there is now a folder on my hard drive
named c:\591f97785 which includes many, many files. My question is
this. Can this folder be deleted? I am assuming that it is from the
aborted installation with Netscape. Or, is it something else like all
the old files that were replaced even though I indicated that I don't
want to make backups?

If you no longer wish to uninstall SP1 you can remove those extra files, to do so:
Set your folder options to show hidden files then go to: C:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$
and delete it. After uninstalling the folder go to Add or Remove, choose uninstall and it will fail
and then the listing will be removed.

Utilize the following Windows XP utility programs afterward, in this order:
