"Service Display Name" Error in Installation Wizard?

M

Mike W

When updating multimedia audio control driver I always get
the message "Name already in use as a service name or
service display name". What the heck does that mean? and
why cant I install the correct driver without getting this
message?

I've tried uninstalling the drivers first, then
reinstalling, also deleted all files associated before
hand. I've tried safe mode, I've tried everything!
Please help.

It's telling you that there is already a service that uses the proposed
short name and or display name. You can find them at
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

The key name is the short name. Within each service the Reg_Sz string
"DisplayName" is the display name as seen in Control Panel|Administrative
Tools|Services
