Server not configured for transactions

Terry

I have a home LAN with 2 systems running W2K, 1 ME and 1
XP.
I upgrade the two W2K systems to SP4 and now one of the
systems will not browse the network.
Workgroups are the same on all systems.
All systems ping each other. NetBIOS is running over
TCP/IP on all systems.

W2K box that does not work (Name=Terry):
When I click "Computers near me" Gives the message "Server
not configured for transactions"
When I run NET SHARE it shows:
Share name Resource Remark
IPC$ Remote IPC
print$ C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers Printer Drivers
ADMIN$ c:\WINNT Remote Admin
C on Terry c:\
HPLaserJ LPT1: Spooled HP Laserjet

On the W2K box that works (Name=Zach):
When I run NET Share it shows only:
C on ZACH C:\
Zach HPlaserJ LPT1: Spooled HP Laserjet

I do have one other problem all boxes can print to the
printer on Terry no box can print to printer on Zach.
From the command prompt on Zach I ran NET START SPOOLER
and the reply was service had already been started, yet
when I try and get PROPERTIES of the Zach printer I get
this message from the W2K system: "Print subsystem is
unavailabe", from the XP system "The print Spooler service
is not running" and from the ME system it tells me the
printer is offline.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Terry

Ok - Try this:

On the w2k box that "works" (name=zach) try the following:

1)get a command prompt

2)type the following command "net share IPC$" (without the quotes but
with the spaces)

From what I understand, every computer in the network needs to share
IPC$. This should fix your problem immediately, and not even require a
reboot. Good luck, and let us know how this works.
