Send, read mail from IE

Dave R.

In MSN.com. msft IE, when I go Tools/ "mail and news" and click on read
mail, OE (my default E-mail) opens. Clicking on "new message" or "send
message", MSN /Hotmail ( I have a Hotmail acct.)opens or I'm asked to sign
in to MSN to get to Hotmail. Is there a way to get OE to open when clicking
on New or send message instead ?
TIA
Dave

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/defaultl.htm

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:
"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

You might also want to try this:

Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Options
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/oe_client.htm

To set Outlook 98, 2000 or 2002(XP) as the default mail client,- Go to
Start, Run - Type in the following with quotation marks and press OK
"C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient
For more information on Outlook see:

Frank, your response is much appreciated. Had to attend to my Valentine
obligations and was about to follow your recommendations this morning when I
saw PA Bear's post. I'll respond to his inquiry separately.
Thanks again.

Hi Bear, thanks for your response. I have WindowXP sp1, Home Edition, I.E.
version 6.0.2800.1106, O.E. version 6.0.2800.1123. When I changed to Verizon
DSL, it came with a "Free" version of MSN 8. While I have a Hotmail acct. my
default E-mail is O.E.. While it would be convenient to have O.E. be default
in I.E.,which I believe it is , being age challenged, I may just live with
it rather than go through all the reinstalling.
Your input, as is Frank's, is much appreciated.
So soon old, so late smart (If ever)

Frank, I performed the procedures you gave me to no avail.
I do appreciate your efforts.

If you typed proerly in Start | Run, I don't know what's wrong.

For many users, the install of MSN8 or MSN9 "hijacks" MailTo Protocol and
the only way to break its grip is to reinstall either IE or Windows. Our
standard fixes simply don't fix it.

<g> Say, I've got some freebies for a year of MSN. Want one??

Drop me an email. I got some freebies for beta testing MSN9, but I never
actually installed it. I wasn't going to give a credit card number and then
get charged because I forgot to unsubscribe.
