Selecting between wireless & dialup network.

Stan Blazejewski

I have access to a wireless network which is only available on a part time basis
& a dialup network. I would like to be able to simply choose which network to
use.
I would have thought that setting Internet properties/connections to 'dial
whenever a network connection is not present' would dial if the wireless was not
active but it doesn't seem to work that way (with IE6 at least).
As it stands if I want to use the wireless network, I have to go to Internet
properties/connections and set it to 'never dial a connection' but then it won't
dial until I set it back to 'always dial my default connection'.

Is there some way to automatically choose a network based on if the wireless is
active or failing that, a way to set up a couple of links (wireless & dialup) to
click on so I don't have to keep reconfiguring Internet properties?

Any help would be appreciated..

PS, I'm not ripping off someone else's wireless network. My son has Optus cable
& for some reason (either Optus or the cable modem, Optus weren't helpful) we
can't set up a wireless network from the modem, it has to be done via the
computer which means that the wireless home network is only active when his
computer is on.

If you have 2 (or more) network adapters in one computer, you can leave both
active. If both are active, and working, Windows XP will automatically choose
the best available connection.

Select "Never dial a connection".

Put a shortcut to the dial-up connection on the desktop (by dragging
and dropping it from the Network Connections folder) and click it when
you want to use dial-up.

Hi
Ask your Son to invest $30, and buy a Wireless Cable/DSL Router.
Using Dialup when you can use Broadband is like preferring Torture over Joy.

I tried having both going at the same time but a problem happens with mail.
Seems to receive Usenet & to send any Email I must be connected directly to 'my'
ISP (which is dialup). As you would expect, XP defaults to using the fastest
link, so no Email.

I expect the suggestion of a Wireless Cable/DSL Router by Jack (MVP-Networking)
would give the same Email problems.

This is why I need the ability to select between networks.
