secure sites

William Evans

My browser for some reason will not allow me to view
secure sites. Like ones you use when you go to purchase
something with a credit card. I've adjusted the settings
in the advanced tab every which way and restored them to
their defualts yet nothing changes. I downloaded the IE
service pack 6, but it will not install properly.
Everytime I get a message saying I must exit all other
applications before setup. I have no other apps open
though. One time it did say that I may have a problem with
some cabinet file that me be corrupt. Whatever that means.
Help!

Try re-booting before you install the IE 6 update to make
sure you don't have anything runing in the background. If
a windows progam is using a system file that needs to be
changed by the setup progam, an access violation will
occur. Usually though, Windows queues those changes until
the next startup, which is why you sometimes need to re-
boot your computer when you install a program or patch.

A cabinet file (.cab) is simply a compressed file archive
file, like a ZIP file. Windows uses them internally. If
you have a corrupt cab file in a downloaded update, you
should re-download the update. If it's talking about a
system file, you may need to re-install windows if all
else fails.

I'm not sure. but go to Tools->Internet Options->Security-
internet zone-> click on default level then click on
trusted sites click on default level. I think you have to
reset all the IE settings and then go to advance tab.
