Search Toolbar pops up automatically

A few days ago, a search toolbar suddenly starting popping
up on the left side of my Internet Explorer window. It
was a little page with a bunch of search results, and
depending on which site I am, the toolbar will have
different search engines. For instance, I go to a
tripod.com website and the search toolbar pops up with
results from the Tripod search engine. If I go to another
site, the toolbar will pop up with results from a Lycos
search engine, etc. I have no idea where this came from
and I can't seem to get it to go away. Almost every time
I open a new browser window, this Search toolbar will pop
up to the left-hand side. It's really annoying and I just
want it gone. Please help.

Jess,
This sounds like Lycos Sidesearch.
See: http://help.lycos.com/LycosHelp/help/search/htdocs/search_1_help.htm

If you have ClearSearch http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/c/clearsearch.asp

http://www.spysweeper.com/lycos-sidesearch-uninstall.html
I've used Spy Sweeper a few times. It's been safe and effective, if a little
aggressive.

You should also work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at

page.
