Search is unstable

XP Home/SP2

When I use Windows Explorer from the desktop icon it works fine. When I go
through Start/Search/Files to pick eg: My Documents, its crashes and sends an
error message to Microsoft.

The error signature is AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.02900.2180 ModName:
msvcrt.dll ModeVersion: 7.02600.2180 Offset 00036af2

I have run SCF /scannow with no success.

Any suggestions about how to fix this.

Show hidden files and folders
Rightclick C:\Windows\Inf\srchasst.inf Click install.
The required file is in ../I386 folder on the XP CD

You can try a Repair setup

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)
