MSVCRT.DLL

I am running XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension 2400 and if I try to open any Windows
folder (the problem does not occur when I open other applications) I receive
this error message:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.

The data contained in the error report is as follows:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 00037fd4"

I have tried extracting msvcrt.dll by using the Recovery Console, renaming
msvcrt.dll in other folders and copying msvcrt.dll to the systems folder, all
with no success. I have deselected all applications using msconfig, with no
success. I have run McAfee VirusScan, Ad-aware and Spybot and deleted all
suspicious files, folders and registry entries, with no success.

Help from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

How many msvcrt.dll files do you have? And where are they located?

Depending on the version of msvcrt.dll, it is either Windows NT CRT DLL or
Microsoft (R) C Runtime. Library. AVG and Hewlett-Packard both have
msvcrt.dll, Microsoft (R) C Runtime Library on my machine. XP's msvcrt.dll
is Windows NT CRT DLL.

File Name msvcrt.dll
File Version 7.0.2600.2180
File Description Windows NT CRT DLL

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
MSVCRT.DL_ is in \I386 and/or \I386\ASMS\70\MSFT\WINDOWS\MSWINCRT

Where did you try extracting MSVCRT.DL_ from?
