"Search Files & Folders" MS Word Only???

Guest

I need to use the "search files and folders" feature to look for something on my hard drive. Apparently with XP, this feature now only "sees" Word documents as no other types of files show up in my search results (All of my older documents, including the one I need to find, are in WordPerfect). I have searched everywhere to change this or ask it to include WordPerfect files in the search, but no luck. Please HELP!!!

[[To search for a file or folder
Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
Click All files and folders.
Important

If you do not see All files and folders, you have probably changed your
default search behavior.

Click Change preferences.
Click Change files and folders search behavior.
Click Standard, and then click OK.
Click All files and folders.
Type part or all of the name of the file or folder, or type a word or phrase
that is in the file.
If you do not know either piece of information or want to narrow your search
further, select one or more of the remaining options:
In Look in, click the drive, folder, or network you want to search.
<<======
Click When was it modified? to look for files that were created or modified
on or between specific dates.
Click What size is it? to look for files of a specific size.
Click More advanced options to specify additional search criteria.
Click Search.
Notes
If you get too many results, try using additional search criteria to make
your search more specific.]]

Thanks for the response. I do use the search feature exactly as you outlined. My problem is that it only shows Word documents -- no WordPerfect documents. It doesn't matter how specific I make the search -- if it's a WordPerfect document I'm looking for it wont "see" or "find" it. This problem started when I upgraded from Windows NT to Windows XP. I guess this is just an "XP thing". I have looked EVERYWHERE to change some setting or a default so it will include WordPerfect files in the search, but still can't find anything.

Any other ideas? :)

I have no idea what a WordPerfect document uses for an extension.
If you were to search for MS Word documents you would
search for *.doc or *.rtf.

I take that back. I did a search on the web.

File extensions for WordPerfect Documents
..WP WordPerfect Document File
..WP4 WordPerfect Document File
..WP5 WordPerfect Document File
..WP6 WordPerfect Document File
..WP7 WordPerfect 7 Document
..WP8 WordPerfect 8 Document
..WPD Document (WordPerfect for Windows)

Use the asterisk as a wild card
(in lieu of a real file name), this should return
everything with that extension.
Search for:
*.WP
*.WP4
Et cetera.
