Search Engine Opening Out of Order

G

Every time I go to open a file folder the Windows XP "SEARCH" engine keeps
popping up instead. It took me a while to notice that "OPEN" had been replaced
by "SEARCH" as the primary function at the top of the box under the "FILE"
function command (?) list {what is the right name for those boxes under "File,
etc., etc. etc., etc. ..."}. Can I swap "SEARCH" for "OPEN" in some way, or
remove it from the list of "Command Functions" altogether (or at least place it
toward the bottom in a standby position)?

I know this sounds silly, and it was my own damned fault for not slapping my
hand when fiddling with important functions. Unfortunately, it has gone beyond
"SYSTEM RESTORE", I did something to make "SEARCH" a _permanent_ feature on the
list. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Type in Start Run

regsvr32 /i shell32

This occurs when you use the File Types dialog to edit Drives or
Directories. You need to type the above each time you use that dialog to
edit those two types.

After 2 1/2 days of frustration and wanting to kick my CPU to hell and back, I
thank you, Carey and Wes. I'm familiar with the regedit function, though I
seldom fiddle with, and only on advice. I knew if I could find the right page
it would have the fix, just didn't know where to look.

I've saved the fix in my fix regedit folder, so I know where to find it next
time.

Thanks.

Oh, I have my share. A cyber-bud from New Zealand actually came to visit for a
weekend as she and her husband did a coast to coast tour of North
America--Hawaii, Calif., up to Wash. State, by train into the mid-west, the East
Coast (Atlanta, Charlestoon, Wash. DC), then on to NY, Boston, Toronto, and
finally here, Halifax, NS. Then again, to England to visit family. All that on
the proceeds of a house sale.

Sounds like the New Zealand folks had quite an adventure.
