scroll function jerky in internet explorer, word, etc.

i can't get my computer to scroll properly through long
web pages or documents. whether i use the mouse scroll
button, the page up/down buttons, or the scroll bar in a
window, the image moves in a jerky manner, sort of like
horizontal waves moving up or down the screen. this is a
big problem when i'm working with large parts of large
word documents, copying selections, etc., but also a huge
annoyance in general. what is this and how do i fix it so
my display will scroll normally? help! thanks!

turn on dma

dma appears to be on (enabled) when i go to it in the
devide manager. is that what you meant? any other ideas?
i appreciate your help. thanks.
