Scanning into Paint

Guest

I have XP Home Edition, SP2.
I can't find any software in the OS that allows me to scan in an image (my
scanner is correctly configured). Paint is supposed to have this feature but
"From scanner or camera" is grayed out on the File menu. Is there any way to
correct this in MS Paint or is there any applet in XP for scanning that I
have not found?

Thanks,

Just get out of scanning into Paint. This is very old software.
Get free software from here
www.fastone.org
or use the software that came with your scanner.

Thanks for the reply but this doesn't help. My scanner is very old but still
works well. The software that came with my Microtek SlimScan C6 doesn't work
beyond Win98 and they do not have anything newer. But they do provide an XP
driver so I still can use the scanner (even in Vista). So I need to use Paint
or Freeware in XP!

I tried going to www.fastone.org but the site is either down or gone.

I believe Irfanview is supposed to be able to import from a scanner. It
is free.

Here's a few things I would try:

Paint doesn't have an option to "Select Twain Device" so you may need to
open Control Panel, Scanners an Cameras, and "Add an imaging device".
If you can get it listed, Paint should give you that option.

With Irfanview, you need to "Select Twain Source..." then you can scan
from it. This might make the scan option available in Paint too.
