Saving Images - defaults to BMP only

I see this is a common problem. I have read and tried the solutions already
posted. ie, Emptied the temporary internet files, unchecked the image
resizing options, etc, and deleted 'downloaded programs' that are unknown or
damaged. I have also performed a disk clean-up. Yet I continue to have the
problem of imaging saving as "untitled", and BMP format option only....
I am not entirely sure my Internet Explorer Cache is emptied.... How can I
check this? and..... if it's not the problem, what else is there??

Ramesh, thanks for your assistance, but alas I am yet to fix the problem....
I checked out your site "windowsxp.mvsp.org".... and followed the tips
there... but again failed.... I'm lost, can't think of anything else to fix
this one.... Are there other potential causes..?

Hi Lost Dog,

Is the problem is seen in one particular site?

Have you tried deleting the index.dat file as given here?
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Click Start/Run and type these commands:

regsvr32 /i mshtml
regsvr32 /i shimgvw

Tech info, from the IE developers:

why IE will only let you save as BMP:

Thanks for you assistance 'Ramesh'...... I'll still not done yet though, and
it's been a long day..... The information you have provided has been
helpful.... I'm learning alot. Reading 'jeffdav's' assessment of the problem
I wonder if I need to manually delete I.E. Cache files.... (if the indexing
is deleted, and files not indexed remain) How do I go about doing that...?
In Windows/inf & Windows/Internet logs I have a substantial number of
files.... are these likely to be the problem..?

Hi,

Clear the TIF from Internet Options General tab. And then delete the locked "index.dat" using the steps given here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Nope. They are not causing the problem.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Ramesh,

Thanks for the advice and your patience..... it paid off in the end... I was
trying to delete the TIF folder under my username, and of course it wouldn't
do it. I went to administrator and deleted that TIF folder, and the problem
was solved.
I've learnt a lot more about IE and where to go for assistance... it is very
much appreciated. Thanks....

Lost Dog.....
