Saving a pps file as ppt

I have been sent a pps file which I have saved but I would like to save it as
a ppt file as well so that I can edit it, but I can't seem to find out how to
do it. Is it possible?

Open the file in PowerPoint (File:Open) instead of double-clicking on the
file. As long as there aren't any security settings preventing you from
saving the file, you can save it as whatever format you need.

You can also just change the extension from .pps to .ppt. It's a good idea
to keep a backup of the original file as well.

This works well for 2003 and earlier. So, if they are really .pps files and
not .ppsx files, it will work. In 2007, changing the .ppsx to .pptx will not
work.
