save changes prompt disappeared from Word

My "do you want to save your changes" prompt disappeared while working in a
Word document. How can I get it back?

On the Save tab of Tools | Options, make sure you have "Prompt to save the
Normal template" checked.

When closing a Word document, the absence of the prompt to save changes to
the document (as opposed to changes in the underlying template) most often
indicates:


a) Corrupted Word registry entries

b) Corrupted Windows user profile

c) The presence of a virus of some kind. Because a/v programs are so
prevalent, we hardly ever see this as a virus issue anymore.

A large number of Word problems are related to a) and b). The article here,
