Save As response time problem on network drives

We have an 80 user LAN running at 100 Mbs, Celeron 2 Ghz with 256 MB under XP or W2K. We want to upgrade to Outlook 2003 and installed Word 2003 as well. Now, we have a slight delay when opening and closing documents to a network drive. For example, in a new Word document, click SAVE AS and select a network drive. When you type a new file name, there is a 4 -5 second delay before the display characters catch up to the typing. There is a similar delay when starting a new document. This is driving our advanced secretaries absolutely nuts! The response delay does not happen in Office 2000.
Any ideas, or can we run Outlook 2003 on top of Office 2000

Thanks,

G'day RDixon <[email protected]>,

U can run OL 2003 on the rest of office 2k. Network lags are normal
due to Word's mechanisms. If you use local templates only this lag is
reduced.
