save as function not working

Something has happened to my PC that I cant figure out.
when trying to do a save as for pictures i am only
getting a bitmap option. I right click..save as...my only
option is untilted which i can change and then
bitmap..which i cant change. Even animated pics..i can
only saveas...bitmap..losing the animation in the
process..i am running XP professional. The only chang ei
made was loading a digital cam program which i have since
uninstalled to try and fix this. Pleae help. I do art
work and its wreaking havoc on me.
