Same view settings for all folders

I have tried this, but it does not work. I have set the values at 8000 and
still folders open small and I have to resize each one.

Use the same view settings for all folders
You can apply the same view settings to all the folders on your computer.
You cannot apply the same view settings to all the folder icons, pictures,
toolbar settings, or folder tasks. To apply the same view settings to all
folders, follow these steps: 1. Locate and open the folder that has the view
setting that you want to use for all folders.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the View tab, click Apply to All Folders.
4. Click Yes, and then click OK.
Note To reset all the folders to the default view settings, repeat these
steps, but click Reset All Folders in step 3.

Troubleshooting
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to
modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the
registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps
carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it.
Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information
about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article
number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) How to back up and restore
the registry in Windows
• By default, Windows remembers each folder's view settings and
customizations. This data is limited to 400 folders and is stored in the
following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam
To increase the number of folders that Windows can remember the view
settings for, create a DWORD value named BagMRU Size in each of these
registry keys, and set its value data to the number of folders that you want
Windows to remember the settings for. For example, if you set the value to
5000, Windows can remember the settings for 5000 folders.

What exactly do you mean by “view settings”?

Try holding Ctrl when you click the X button to close a window. That used to
forcibly save the settings for that particular window in the past (don’t know
for sure if it still works).

That did not work.
When I click on My Computer icon or any other documents on the desktop. The
windows do not open all the way. I have to stretch them one way and the other
way, to see everything in it. Of course I can double click the top bar and it
will open all the way up. But they do not stay fully resized after I close
them and open them back up again.
I had to do a clean install of XP over the weekend. I have never had this
problem before. Maybe it has something to do with SP3. I did not have SP3
installed before.
Thanks for any help...

In control panel---folder options---general tab---are you set to 'open each
folder in the same window'?

Yes I have "open each folder in the same window" checked. I have tried all
the settings in there and all different combinations, but still will not stay
the way I set it. The only items that stick are the thumbnails, arrange by
name, and auto arrange. This has me really stumped and frustrated.

Thank you ju.c that worked.
From what I see in the registry is has deleted the DWORD values named BagMRU
Size in both the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell and the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam
Thanks again....
