Safely remove hardware

The neat little feature, that "safely removes hardware" that I use when
putting in and taking out usb equipment has ceased to function. it comes up
when I click the icon in the task bar, yet when I ask it to stop the device,
nothing happens. i still go ahead and unplug and the little disconnect sound
comes out. Just worried it may one day glitche the computer. Any ideas most
appreciated.
Thanks

Type this into the run box on the start menu.

RUNDLL32 SHELL32.DLL,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

Does it make any difference?

Have you run any registry fixing programs lately

That line did the trick and stopped it.
No I have not run a regfix lately. I will do that tonight.
Thanks for the help.

No you misunderstand my remark about reg fixing programs. They nearly always
cause more problems than fix so I was asking if you had run one as It might
have been responsible for causing the problem.

Glad you fixed it. As long as it's all working don't run any registry fixing
program.

Oops sorry for the misunderstanding. No I didn't run a regfix. I only have
used things like Norton Utilities anyway. But now the computer seems to be a
peace...at least for today.
Thanks muchly.
