If you don't need it, it won't be there. Did you set whatever might use
it to be hot-removable?

Hi,
I don't know how you the icon in the taskbar back referring to your
missing "Safely remove hardware" taskbar icon. There's no way to turn it
off (or bring it back for that matter) I don't think. However, all is not
lost. To make a shortcut that does EXACTLY THE SAME THING follow these
instructions for making a "Desktop Icon" instead.

1). right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose New > Shortcut
2). copy and paste the following in it's entirety into the 'Target' box

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL Hotplug.dll

(I have doubled-up the spaces to make it clearer)

3). right-click on the resulting desktop icon you've just created and
choose 'properties'
4). pick an icon for your shortcut by clicking on the 'Change icon'
button on 'properties'
5). You will find the original icon for it (like the one in the taskbar)
in the file Hotplug.dll within your C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory. This
will have the same function as the one that appears (or not) in the taskbar.
When you want to [safely] remove a pen drive or other cached USB device.
Just click on this desktop icon and choose the appropriate device that's
listed and then click on the 'STOP' button.

If you use Google to search for: safely remove hardware icon missing

You find several pages where this is discussed and possible solutions.

I can't test them because my icon is there, but hidden.
