What use is SFC in the context of an up to date XP Home ed. SP2 platform ?
i.e. is SFC any better than it used to be years ago ? ...that's to say,
Does it update any sort of index anywhere so that it doesn't offer to
replace legitimate files that are lots newer than on ones old XP Home ed.
cd-r ?
Whilst wandering around in an OE NG, someone with a faulty OE6, (I posted a
link to the eldergeek), and whilst casting an eye up and down that page:-
( http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_reinstall_ie_and_oe_6.htm )
I was tempted, and idly started sfc / scannow at a cmd prompt, and after a
short while it wanted my xp sp2 cd to copy files from it to a dll cache.
Not wanting to muck up anything I said no, then it kept wanting the cd, so
I said no several more times and then finally hit sfc's button on my
taskbar and cancelled it.
What would have happened ? ...i.e. a distant memory tells me that I would
have choices to restore or keep newer dynamic link library files etc.
How would restoring older versioned files affect Windows and its' updates
since the "old" SP2 on my Home ed. cd ?
regards, Richard
