I have been usinf Windows Embedded standard to create my XPe image. When
I enter a runtime key (labeled Win XP Embedded Runtim) from one of the
yellow cards that came with the licences my immage failes to boot.

Anyone know why this might be?

Thanks

Yepp, reinstall it using the DVD that is part of the licensed version.

Thanks for the pdf.

I am using XP Embedded standard 2009 (thats WES2009 isn't it!?) which i
downloaded as part of my Visual Sudio Premium with MSDN subscription.
When I installed it I entered the 5x5 licence key from the MSDN download
web page.

The log from building the image contains the following warning "Warning
1115: This is an evaluation run-time image that is only valid for 90
to 180 days after it is first used." which i would expect as I have not
entered a runtime key/PID

I am currently using the Explorer shell for my image and in the bottom
right corner i get the following text:

Windows Embedded Standard
Evaluation Copy. Build 2600.xpsp.080413-2111 (Service Pack 3)

When I enter a runtime key/PID the image fails to boot. What log files
should I look in to give me an idea whey this may be happening?

Sounds like you entered the key for the tools and not the run-time license
key. The license key comes on a 5x8 yellow card with the stickers that go out
with each product.

Has your company signed a license agreement?
