Runtime error, do you wish to debug

M

Maureen Meenan

Hope someone can help me with this. For the last few
weeks I frequently get an error message that says: "A
runtime error has occured do you wish to debug?" Then
the msg will list a line number (usually 1, but not
always)and then a reason, like "Object expected".

This is so annoying especially since it happens so
ofter. I have to click no on the msg box to make it go
away. Some sites, Yahoo, for example will make this msg
occur on nearly every click.

I am running XP PRofessional and IE 6 -- any ideas?
Thanks!

This has to do with the sites that you visit. Nothing you
can do about it. What you can do is to modify your
preference in the "internet option" --> "Advance" section
and disable the script debugging.

I have this same prob. OS - 2000 Prof., IE 6.0 SP1 - I
found a doc in knowledge base that addresses this (257997)
But I dont understand what it states to do to resolve the
problem. If you can get anything from this doc let me
know please. Thanks!

It's telling the site manager how to fix his code.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Check the box to Disable script debugging.
Uncheck the box to Display a notification about every script error.

I'm having the same problem. Both recommended boxes are
checked appropriately. I copied the message:

"A runtime error has occurred
Do you wish to Debug?

Line: 1029
Error: 'null' is null or not an object"

This is the version that happens when I open my Excite
homepage, but it happens on many other pages as well.
Starting to drive me nuts.

IE (ver 6.00.2800.1106, all sp's installed)

TIA

The, try the new script engine.

Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version requires Windows 2000; the second version requires
Microsoft Windows 98, Millenium Edition (Me), or NT 4.0. Please choose the
download appropriate for your operating system.

Found the answer for me, perhaps for others...

I had downloaded and installed Google's toolbar v2.0
(pretty new). Uninstalled and reinstalled, seemed to fix
the problem. Add-ins can be a problem if installed in
the 'wrong order'...

Thanks,
Fred
