running xp with sp2 after recent windows update system runs sloooo

IE often hangs at start up or during use requiring use of task mgr- every
time i go to tsk mgr it shows 100% cpu usage, no virus found by
mcafee-scanned multiple times, can anyone help

Open Internet Explorer and then go to Tools > Manage Add-ons and disable everything. How is IE now?
