I had to remove SP2 which was installed over SP1 (by re-booting from the XP
Installation CD and selecting the Repair Option) because the Remote
Connection Manager had failed in XP on my System. I re-installed the two
Security Patches- KB 823980 & KB 824146- after the Repair. After restarting,
I now have an operation referred to by XP as "starting RPCSS" which takes
quite a few minutes every time I start Windows. Is it not possible to keep
the RPCSS enabled by default so that this delay is avoided?
Secondly, after removing SP2, before Windows start shutting down, it on its
own wants to do an "End Now" Operation for two programs: 1) explorer.exe and
2) connection Tray. I always close all open programs, especially Windows
Explorer, if I ever open it. I have never seen where the Connection tray is
and would obviously not open it. I have an icon for my I S P on the desktop
which I double-click for making a remote connection. I am a single PC
instillation.
How can I overcome these two irritations?
