Roxio/DLL Corrupted Files

I recieved my DELL 1521 for Xmas 07 Visa Home Premium. HELP ???
Recemtly when I got a message for a Roxio/Sonic upgrade/update I chose the
option to install later. Within in a short time I began to get messages that
I had Roxio/DLL shared corrupted and unreadable files. Since I have followed
all instructions to totally try and remove Roxio but I still continue to be
plaqued with these messages. My last communication with Dell said I would
have to save all my pictures, documents etc and redo Windows. All this will
be done via phone. I thought it would be wise to investagate any further
optioms for a notch above novice. I have found much word on line about Roxio
issues espcecially with Dell and Vista. I also have lots of questions about
starting over...I am guessing that I will have to go through the process to
reinstall everything! Or can I continue to get these messages with no damage
to anything? Seems terribly complicated and time consuming. I feel Dell has
dropped the ball in installing software that is not compatable with Vista and
is NO help because it is software.

I had Roxio installed on an HP. I sprang for the full version. One day it
stopped working - totally stopped. Contacted Roxio, they were not much
help. Since I had the full version, contacting HP would not work. I
removed the entire program and loaded Nero 8. Hanven't had a problem since.
Seems Vista and Roxio do not play that well together.

Novice that I am actually did this procedure. I even learned how to do an
Event View and saw thousands of errors. Which I sent to Microsoft and the
report says Corrupted disc ( or some such) and I get no results from running
the chkdsk. I tried to do a chkntfs but didn't know how to put in what drive
so I never got to the part that has choose Repair. My husband thinks I will
have to start clean and I have seen some evidence of the that on-line as well
that Roxio does not mix well with Vista. Dell should be more accountable for
bundling this in and the way Roxio takes root like a virus. While all this
has been frustrating I have learned quite a bit. My kids are home from
college and because this will be a long process I am waiting to save and redo
everything. I don't even know if that is the answer for the problem and I
don't think Dell knows. SO I have time to explore... other Ideas.
Thanks for your help!

I had no idea that I even had Roxio! But it is Version 9. Dell's
troubleshooting was to have me uninstall and reinstall...and I have since
learned that perhaps they did not take me through the correct process. Last
Dell told me I would have to redo everything because they bundle in a product
that does not mesh with Vista and actually acts like a virus. Worried about
my computer too, I've only had it three months!
Thanks!

I have just realized that my Chkdsk has never run properly. I have set it up
to run as an administrator. I have taken several steps to get it to work to
no avail and don't feel confident enough to go through the next step with the
registry. Would be great if this could fix my problem without having to
reinstall Vista. I am okay starting with a clean slate again but will that
fix the corrupted file problem?
