Desktop Files&Folders Corrupted after click on News Video Link in

Using Vista Home Premium on new Dell laptop. In IE 7.0, I clicked on a video
link for a local news story (www.ksl.com). Screen flickered, got a quick
message about Vista needing to got to Vista Basic (guessing this is the
opposite of Aero), and the video never ran. When I closed out IE and looked
at my desktop, all my Files and Folders were corrupted with names like:
"3D5DB8DF88EE1D499F3ADB9670FA7FE4000000050042B154029B0.qss". Anything that
was a shortcut was still there... just the files and folders that were stored
on the destop were trashed. Tried Windows Restore, Safe Mode, AV Scan (up to
date McAffee found nothing), etc. Can not figure out if they are salvagable.
Any help would be appreciated.

This just happened to me as well, same KSL.com site, clicked on a video about
Carlos Boozer and his son, and what you described below happened to me.... I
had very important files on my desktop! This isn't acceptable.
