Rouge IE Browser Home Page.

Michael Ward

I tender this request for help to any of you Good Samaritans out there who
have a moment (or two) to spare!

My IE6 Browser insists that my preferred home page is:-
http://www.alfa-serch.co/home.html. I disagree as I have never knowingly
ever visited this vender, nor do I require their services.
I also have a similar issue with a couple of adult sites that appear to have
embedded themselves into my browser. For example, when I type http://www.a
into the search bar it instantly and repeatedly puts up the same adult site.
I get other sites at other letters.
In addition to clearing Temporary Internet Files of all Files and Cookies
daily I also clear the Browser's History. I run and update (daily) the
following AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware and Sygate Personal Firewall all of which
seem to be operating normally. I run Disk Cleanup every other day or so and
Defragment weekly (more or less). Non of these actions ever locate any of
the seemingly embedded Websites. Nor am I able to locate them manually i.e.
in Documents and Settings, User or Programme Files etc.
I have been to the XP knowledge base and followed various leads, hints and
tips. I have already executed several Clean Reboots, and Regedit for "Adult
Content Web Site Is Unexpectedly Displayed In Browser Window Bar When You
Click Search". Sadly to no avail, as even having checkied and removed
everything I can find about Alfa-Search in particular, it always returns as
my homepage after the following restart.
Incidentally, I also had a problem with System Restore witch I have now
apparently resolved during one of the Clean Reboots. It now works but I have
lost all my previous restore points.
I have recently noticed however, that AVG is now finding viruses (usually
Trojan Horses) in various places as I move throughout the system. This is
despite its claims of clear "complete tests" daily tests. AVG heals the
viruses when prompted.

I hope much needed help may soon be at hand.

Kind Regards Whoever!

SYCHMAN.

You have spyware\adware on your OS. Sites use BHO (browser help objects) to change your home pages and maybe search pages and so on. There are many free programs that can help you. Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, SpywareBlaster,SpywareGuard, and HijackThis. If you need help installing and using them then just e:mail me. Good luck. {:~)

Hi Sychman,

Your system is infected with a spyware, which hijack the homepage and change
it to a search engine website.

You can resolve the problem by scanning the system using the CWShredder from
the link given below:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Additionally, use Adware, or spybot to eliminate spywares.

Rgds,
Sathya
