Risks of Low Disk space

What are the risks of disk space being low?

File corruption, memory not being able to write? Is there something out
there somewhere that explains in detail what the risks are if you computer
is running low on disk space?

Thank you,

Some apps will not run, eg DiskCleanup and some third party apps, file
corruption can occur. Performance will be degraded.
Dont read about it; assuming you have received warnings on low disk space,
install a slave drive and reorganise your sys

It is important to have a sufficient amount of available storage space
on your hard drive because programs might fail due to an inability to
allocate space. In addition, low disk space might make it impossible
for your paging file to grow to support virtual memory, resulting
in slow or sluggish performance.

Also, when System Restore runs low on disk space, the monitoring of
all hard drives is suspended.
When System Restore is suspended, you cannot run the System Restore Wizard.
If you attempt to run the wizard, a dialog box is displayed to inform you that
System Restore is suspended. System Restore automatically resumes
monitoring when a minimum of 200 MB of disk space become available.

You cannot defragment when disk space is low. I have read that you need 20%
unused space on your disk to defragment. If cost is an object, surely some
of your data files can be stored on CD's? Always check to make sure the
files you copy to CD are copied correctly, and make two copies of important
data before deleting from the hard drive.

It will not be as effective, but the algoithm still works.
