my xp pc is taking forever (about 45 seconds) anytime I perform any of the
following:
right clicking any file, anywhere on my system or on the network
opening any file with any app

I have ruled out the antivirus software (disabling it)
Checked system with spyware

The result of the system changes that you made prior to the first
encounter of this problem. Nobody but you knows what kind of change
(eg. installation) had been applied. May or may not stick on the issue
above.

Unfortunately, I did try all of these suggestions. Went through every context
menu and disabled it, rebooted, same issue. As far as installation programs,
I keep my work system pretty clean but noticed this starting happening after
a "bunch" of windows updates.

think I found something. I did disable the network connection and the problem
went away but is not related to WINZIP like stated below...has to be
something else.

Well, I seriously doubt that your problem is related to the latest MS
updates. Otherwise, I had experienced the same behavior with my machines
and most other users as well. However, since you are that positive,
uninstall that "bunch" of windows updates one after the other in order
to find the culprit and to resolve that problem at the same time. You
may also want to re-enable your anti-virus first in order to scan your
system for Malware (viruses, worms, trojans in that case). Good luck.

but is not related to WINZIP like stated below

"WinZip" is only used as an example in that article. If you follow the steps (Regscanner stuff) in that article, you should be able to isolate the problem.
